“Paint It Black” by Ciara, was the last song played on the soundtrack of The Last Witch Hunter co-produced by and starring Vin Diesel. Although the project was not a favorite among the critics, I truly loved the film. But what I loved, even more, was the incredible surprise of hearing this powerful and passion-filled version of a song that I knew and loved from The Rolling Stones’ song catalog. I was so excited by this new version that I repeatedly wondered aloud who the siren was who had me transfixed and watching the credits just so I could listen to the song in its entirety.
Little did I know that what I was listening to was the interpretation of an artist whom I had not previously associated with this kind of vocal prowess. Although I was already a Ciara fan, and I loved her voice, I had not imagined that she had the capacity for recasting this beloved track in such a powerful way. I was bowled over and I was as proud of her work at that moment, as I would have been for one of my own artists. And to be truthful, because I’m not sure how many people had the opportunity to hear the track, I wanted to share it here so that music lovers reading this could check it out for themselves. This is a track that I believe deserves to be heard.
